Working with disadvantaged community people, AMDA Bangladesh found the target beneficiaries are in needs of health care. People have been suffering from communicable disease; however , not many people had proper knowledge of preventive and curative care those diseases .Environmental sanitation was not properly maintained and their level of personal hygiene was very low. A lot of children were suffering from preventable diseases such as Acute Respiratory Track Infection (ARI), Diarrhea and Scabies and many women were anemic and malnourished. People in this community were very superstitious so that lots of malnourished treatments were given to sick people. In addition to this situation, people are suffering from difficulties to access to clinical care In order to deal with these situations, AMDA Bangladesh established AMDA Health Center (AHC) with the support from Japanese Government in 2003. AMDA provides low cost health care services including general clinical services, normal delivery service, antenatal and postnatal check–up and pathology Service. AHC also provides preventive health care service including health awareness and education through community health worker and tele health service in collaboration with Japan Bangladesh Friendship Hospital. From 2003 to 2009 AMDA provided low cost health care service to 15,316 sick people and 769 women for safe delivery in the health center. In addition it has disseminated health knowledge and information to 50,000 families through its mobile community health worker .
The project is subsidized by the microcredit program since the income generated from the health service is not enough to run the health centre. In order to increase the income at the health center it is crucial to promote better health care facilities as per the demand of the community people.
