AMDA Vocational Training Centre cum Flood Shelter was established in 2002 to promote skill training and employment promotion for the underprivileged community people with low level of education. The project was funded by the Grand Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Japan. Keeping all its training needs of the different department in the centre in terms of space and the allocation is devised to enable the building to give shelter to the people as and when it is necessary during the flood.
The training centre is providing the skill training on computer, carpentry, welding, electric & electronics, sewing and handicraft. Through on production training in carpentry, sewing and handicraft department the trainees would develop their skill by producing furniture, dresses, etc. and would receive remuneration by selling those products. On production training attracts trainees from the poor families because they are able to earn during the training session.
By now it has provided skill training to 1,600 youths in different trades. Out of these numbers 1,049 were employed. In addition to this it has provided non formal skill training to 350 underprivileged community members especially women through Community Based Training (CBT), a gender responsive ILO methodology for employment and empowerment.
The Vocational Training Centre is also subsidized by microcredit program. Maximum students coming from low income family are not able to pay the tuition fees. On the other hand trainees from far areas do not like to get admission without dormitory facilities.
